Astoria man charged in alleged rent fraud

According to a top Queens prosecutor, a property owner in Astoria faces charges of petit larceny, fraud and grand larceny after he bilked several prospective tenants out of $17,000 in first month's rents and security deposits. According to authorities, he had placed ads on Craigslist advertising apartments that were never available.

New York woman charged in $500,000 scam

According to a news report, a 26-year-old Troy woman was charged on Aug. 2 in connection with a scam worth nearly half a million dollars. The woman allegedly filed a fictitious claim with the One Fund of Boston in an attempt to receive $480,000 for injuries she never incurred.

Man sentenced to 25 years for stolen lottery ticket

A man was sentenced to up to 25 years in prison on July 23 after being convicted of possessing a stolen $5 million winning lottery ticket. The 35-year-old New York man was said to have a winning ticket that was stolen in late 2006 from a convenience store owned by his parents. The man's father is also facing conspiracy charges and will begin trial in September. New York Lottery representatives report that they are finishing the process of verifying the real owner of the ticket.

Two New York teenagers charged with larceny

It is claimed that two New York teenagers stole money last month from another New York resident.  The 16 and 18-year old boys have both been charged with felony third-degree larceny.  Each also faces misdemeanor charges for claimed fifth-degree conspiracy.  Finally, the older of the two youths faces misdemeanor charges for allegedly endangering the welfare of a child.
