Three men accused of burglary in reported Nanuet home invasion

| Dec 16, 2016 | Theft & Property Crimes |

Last week, this blog discussed the nuances of the crime of burglary. As one may recall, burglary involves knowingly entering a building with the intent to commit a crime therein. Recently, three men from New York were accused of committing that very crime in Nanuet, New York.

Three men were arrested by the Clarkstown Police Department on accusations of robbery and burglary. The incident allegedly took place in a home invasion in Nanuet.

Reportedly, multiple individuals with guns gained access to a home with people in it and displayed their weapons. One of the alleged occupants reported that when he went out to his garage to get something, he saw two African American males point firearms at him. The man reported that the gunmen demanded jewelry and money. The man handed them some cash, and they reportedly left the residence on foot to an automobile.

The accused were then arrested after their vehicle was pulled over the New York State Thruway. Police conducted a search and found two loaded firearms. The accused, a man from the Bronx, age 30, another man from the Bronx, age 33, and a man from Brooklyn, age 26, now face multiple charges, including first-degree burglary, first-degree robbery and third-degree criminal possession of stolen property, all felonies.

The criminal charges these men face are no doubt serious. Any felony charge carries with it the potential for significant penalties, including the possibility of incarceration.

Those in New City accused of such crimes need to make sure that they mount a solid defense. A criminal defense attorney may be able to help these individuals craft a strategy that counters the arguments proffered by the prosecution. Doing so may lead to a reduction of charges, or having the charges dropped altogether.
