Man killed, woman injured in New York head-on collision

On March 24, a Pennsylvania man was killed in a car crash on Route 62 in Kiantone. The accident happened at approximately 7:45 a.m. just south of Riverside Road, according to the Chautauqua County Sheriff's Office.

Authorities said the driver of a Ford Focus headed south on Route 62 lost control of the vehicle, left the roadway, hit a guardrail and entered oncoming northbound traffic lanes. The Ford then stuck a Subaru Legacy head-on. The driver of the Ford, a 57-year-old man from Warren, Pennsylvania, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. The driver of the Subaru, a 50-year-old woman from Russell, Pennsylvania, suffered injuries to her legs, hand and head. She was taken to WCA Hospital for treatment.

The New York State Department of Transportation said the northbound and southbound lanes of Route 62 were closed from Riverside Road to Kiantone Road while police investigated and cleared the scene of the crash. The lanes reopened at around 11 a.m.

Someone who is injured in a car accident could face weeks or months of difficult and expensive recovery time. In some cases, they could be left with a permanent disability that leaves them unable to earn a living. If a victim's injuries were caused by the actions of a negligent driver, they may wish to consider filing a civil lawsuit against the party that caused the accident. With the aid of an attorney, it may be possible to recover a financial settlement from the at-fault driver that provides compensation for medical expenses, lost wages and pain and suffering. If the liable party was killed in the crash, a claim may be made against their estate and insurance company.
