No survivors in wrong-way collision

Two New York women died in a head-on crash in the evening on Nov. 23. Although there were no reported witnesses, Suffolk County Police suspect that the incident was the result of drunken driving.

A woman from Islip, 70, was driving her 2012 Kia Forte southeast along Route 109 at approximately 11 p.m. A 46-year-old woman driving a 1991 Buick Regal was traveling in the wrong lane, and the two collided in the vicinity of the exit to Route 110. Emergency responders took both women to the Nassau University Medical Center in the city of East Meadow. According to the police, the Levittown woman smelled strongly of alcohol, and several beer bottles were found inside the Buick, leading investigators to believe that she had been driving drunk.

The Islip woman was pronounced dead upon her arrival at the Nassau University Medical Center. The wrong-way driver succumbed to her injuries the following morning. Police continued an investigation into the incident, and both vehicles involved in the accident were impounded for safety checks.

An auto accident can often be deadly, and the chances of severe injury or fatality increase when a driver exhibits negligence when behind the wheel. The family of a person killed in an automotive collision may wish to file a wrongful death lawsuit. With the aid of an attorney, such a suit may result in compensation for lost monetary support, the expenses of a funeral and burial and potential emotional suffering.
