Drug crimes in New City, New York, are taken seriously. They can range from misdemeanors to felonies, depending on the type of drug activity suspected, as well as the alleged drugs confiscated. Therefore, it is important for those accused of drug offenses to fight the charges against them.
Recently, three individuals in New City have been charged with various drug crimes. Police obtained a search warrant after some people reported alleged drug sales at a specific location. Per the warrant, police seized what was reported to be drug paraphernalia, 240 envelops of heroin, marijuana, suboxone and packaging material.
The three men now face charges of felony possession of controlled substances. One of the men was also charged with misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia and controlled substances. The three men were arraigned and jailed. One man, who had prior felony convictions, could not be bailed. The bail of the other two men was set at $10,000 and $7,500 respectively.
Being convicted of a drug crime can have long-ranging and serious consequences for an individual. A conviction can result in imprisonment, fines and a criminal record that could turn up on a person's background check. Because of this, it is important that those facing drug charges develop arguments in their defense.
For example, evidence presented by the prosecution can be challenged, and arguments in the accused's favor can be made. In addition the prosecution's witnesses can be cross-examined and witnesses can be presented on the accused's behalf. As this shows, with the right help it can be possible to prevent an unjust conviction.
