Pedestrian injured in New York car accident

| Sep 9, 2014 | Car Accidents |

A livery cab was reportedly traveling south in Brooklyn on Sept. 2 around 12:40 p.m. when the driver attempted to make a right turn. The driver struck a flatbed truck that was also attempting to turn, causing the cab driver to lose control of the car and jump the curb. The cab then struck a 29-year-old woman on the sidewalk.

A witness stated that the woman was lying on the ground shaking and that there was a lot of blood. Another witness stated that both drivers remained on the scene after the accident. The woman was taken to Lutheran Hospital in critical condition.

A New York Police Department spokesperson stated that the truck driver was given a summons for making an improper turn along with multiple motor carrier summonses for his truck. The company whose name was on the side of the truck had not responded to requests for comments at the time of the report. Officers did not issue any summonses to the cab driver in relation to this incident.

When a pedestrian is injured in a car accident, the injuries could be much worse than those sustained by drivers and passengers. In this case, the victim was in critical condition, which can mean exorbitant hospital bills as well as the loss of income and future earning potential, depending on any permanent damage from the accident.

The victim in this case may be eligible to file a lawsuit against the responsible party or parties to receive compensation for damages and pain and suffering. Since officers issued summonses to the truck driver and not the cab driver, this could put the blame on the truck driver or his company. A full police report could give a much clearer picture of what caused the accident and which driver was at fault.
