Man charged in connection with JFK airport trailer theft

A 29-year-old New York man was taken into custody by the Port Authority Police Department on Feb. 6 after they tracked a trailer that had been reported missing to a lot in Brooklyn. The man is being questioned about a series of trailer thefts from a DHL facility at John F. Kennedy International Airport.

The trailer, a Columbia Freightliner, was taken from an unsecured area of the airport on Jan. 30, and PAPD officers tracked it to a facility in Kings County near the intersection of Linden Boulevard and Emerald Street on Feb. 5. The officers also discovered a truck at the facility that they believed had been used to move the trailer. The focus of the investigation settled on the man when the truck found at the Brooklyn lot was traced back to him.

According to the report, the man is said to be the owner of a local trucking company called Elite Logistics, and he is a former employee of DHL. A statement from the PAPD said that he has been charged with criminal possession of stolen property and grand larceny.

Being charged with a crime is a harrowing experience for most people, and many can feel powerless when they find themselves in this situation. However, a criminal defense attorney may be able to dispute the validity of search warrants as well as question the actions of law enforcement officers. They could also point out the discrepancies and contradictions that may be found in witness statements. An attorney may also be able to advise the defendant into entering into a plea agreement in order to avoid some of the more harsher penalties if a conviction seems likely.
