Police say Queens man had collection of guns, drugs

Police took a man into custody in Queens on Tuesday, March 18, on the suspicion of having illegal drugs and weapons in his residence. When police searched his place of residence in Sunnyside Gardens, they reportedly found drugs, real and imitation weapons and some cash.

Attorney General advocates for reduced drug sentences

U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder was scheduled to testify before the U.S. Sentencing Commission that the federal mandatory minimum prison sentence for certain drug-related offenses should be reduced. In particular, he is endorsing a move to reduce the sentence for federally convicted drug dealers in New York and nationwide by one year, from 62 months to 51 months. His prepared remarks, which were released to the press ahead of his scheduled appearance before the commission, argue that the justice system's overreliance on incarceration for drug offenses is unsustainable and should be curtailed. His statement also argues that the high rates of incarceration have high moral costs that cannot be calculated.

3 face drug charges after New York police raid

A recent New York police raid has resulted in felony drug charges for three Sullivan County residents. On March 5, police raided a home in Glen Spey. Police allegedly found large quantities of oxycodone, crack cocaine and heroin. Eight people were taken into custody following the drug raid. Three individuals, a 35-year-old man, a 43-year-old woman and a 50-year-old woman, were charged with felonies.

House search leads to multiple drug charges 

A 25-year-old man from the New York town of New Lisbon has been taken into custody, and he now faces certain drug charges, according to the Otsego County Sheriff's Office. A sheriff's department spokeman said that a tip came in back in December regarding activity commonly associated with drug trafficking. This activity was allegedly occurring near the man's residence. Because the individual was on parole, Cooperstown probation officers and Utica parole officers worked alongside sheriff's department investigators on the case.

Suspected New York drug dealer and three buyers caught in sting

A sting conducted by the Nassau County Narcotics/Vice Bureau and Bureau of Special Operations CIRRT unit caught a suspected drug dealer and three buyers. A 51-year-old man is suspected of selling drugs to three individuals from his 1998 BMW and cocaine drug possession. The four individuals were taken into custody.

New York police charge 40 connection with alleged drug rings

On Jan. 28, two top law enforcement officials made an announcement that two major drug rings had been taken down, and 40 individuals had been indicted. Police conducted two separate investigations, one called Operation TGIF and the other Operation Lockport. Police seized equipment allegedly used in the transport of cocaine, a cache of prescription painkillers, three rifles, $60,000 in cash and $100,000 worth of cocaine in Operation Lockport. All together, 25 people were indicted in connection with the operation.

Reputed drug kingpin arrested with 10 others in New York

According to police, a drug ringleader and 10 members of the organization are now in custody. The alleged kingpin previously served 20 years in prison after he was convicted of drug charges in 1986. Police went to the Yonkers home of the 59-year-old suspected drug lord on Jan. 16 and took him into custody. He faces multiple charges that include conspiracy and several drug-related charges.

New York drug sweep leads to 19 people in custody

After spending nine months investigating, state and local police made a number of drug raids in the early morning hours in Hudson. Reports said that the Hudson Police Department was working with the New York State Police and the Catskill Police Department and that the raids took place all across the city and in Catskill.

New York physician arrested on prescription drug charges

A New York physician was taken into police custody after being indicted on charges involving the illegal prescription of the strong narcotic pain-killer known as oxycodone. The charges against the man are the latest in what one source calls an 'ongoing crackdown" on doctors who may be distributing painkillers illegally.

Investigators uncover alleged North Korean meth smuggling ring

Five foreigners were brought to New York from Thailand to face charges that they were conspiring to smuggle 100 kilograms of very potent, North Korean methamphetamine. The men were taken into custody on drug charges and transported to the U.S. on Nov. 19. They were brought before a judge on Nov. 20, and they all pleaded not guilty to conspiracy charges. The judge has ordered them to be held without bail until Dec. 5, which is their next court date.
