3 face drug charges after New York police raid

A recent New York police raid has resulted in felony drug charges for three Sullivan County residents. On March 5, police raided a home in Glen Spey. Police allegedly found large quantities of oxycodone, crack cocaine and heroin. Eight people were taken into custody following the drug raid. Three individuals, a 35-year-old man, a 43-year-old woman and a 50-year-old woman, were charged with felonies.

Charges against the three individuals include possession of a controlled substance and fourth-degree conspiracy. The man and two women were arraigned and remanded to jail without bail. Five other individuals were charged with misdemeanor drug charges and released; they are expected to appear in court at a later date. Several law enforcement agencies participated in the raid, including the New York State Police and the FBI.

Drug offenses carry serious consequences, including large fines and long jail times. Anyone charged with a drug crime may want to consider hiring an attorney to represent them. Laws are complicated and various charges may require unique defensive strategies. If a raid was conducted like it was in this case, reports can be examined to see if law enforcement officers properly obtained a search warrant and had authority to conduct the raid.

An attorney may be able to mount a strong defense that may possibly get charges reduced or even dismissed. When a conviction seems imminent, it might be possible to arrange a plea deal where the accused pleads guilty to a lesser crime in order to avoid jail. For instance, if the defendant has an addiction to alcohol or drugs, an attorney could negotiate a plea deal where the defendant attends a substance abuse treatment program in lieu of jail time.
