UFC's McGregor faces criminal charges after alleged bus attack

Conor McGregor, one of the UFC's biggest stars, was recently arrested in New York following a chaotic incident involving other fighters. McGregor was arraigned on criminal charges, including one count of criminal mischief and three counts of assault. The judge set his bond at $50,000 and ordered McGregor not to contact a list of MMA members.

McGregor could face both criminal and UFC consequences. However, McGregor and his attorneys will likely be working on a criminal defense strategy to protect McGregor's life and career.

The incident occurred after a news conference for UFC 223, set to take place at Brooklyn's Barclays Center. McGregor, along with others, attacked a bus carrying UFC fighters. McGregor was allegedly seen on video throwing a hand truck at a bus full of fighters. McGregor was also apparently seen tossing trashcans with a group of people and attempting to throw a barricade at the bus.

As a result of the incident, one fighter was sent to the hospital and was pulled from a scheduled fight. Another fighter suffered multiple cornea abrasions and had his fight scratched. The UFC reportedly cancelled a total of three fights on Saturday's UFC 223 card because of the incident.

Many people mistakenly believe that if one is caught doing something illegal, they are automatically guilty of any charges. But, this is not usually the case. Prosecutors must prove each element of a charge beyond a reasonable doubt for one to be found guilty. With the appropriate defense strategy, many charges may be dropped due to lack of evidence. The fewer charges, the less severe the consequences.
